The heat case is straightforward physics.
A curtain or tint film fights solar heat after it has passed through the glass; an external shutter stops most of it before it reaches the pane, which is why a shuttered west-facing room is measurably cooler by mid-afternoon and the AC cycles instead of running flat-out from 2pm to 7pm.

Single-skin aluminium

Foam-filled insulated aluminium

Manual crank vs motorised
Manual crank
A geared handle winds the curtain up and down. No wiring, nothing electronic to fail, and the lowest price. The honest downside is effort — winding four bedroom shutters twice a day gets old within a week, which is why manual best suits small or rarely used windows.
Motorised
A tube motor hidden inside the roller does the work at a button press. It is the default above 180 cm of width, for any shutter used daily, and for anyone who wants the curtains down at noon while nobody is home. Specify a manual override so the shutter still opens by hand in a power cut.
Wall switch, remote or app
A hard-wired wall switch is the cheapest and most reliable control. A rolling-code remote adds sofa-and-car convenience. Timer and app control sit on top — shutters drop automatically through the hottest hours, rise at dusk, and can be checked from abroad.
